The film versions of The Da Vinci Code and Angels & Demons hold the rare distinction of being some of the very few movies that are vast improvements on their literary sources, largely because Dan Brown’s novels are nigh-unreadable trash. They do lend themselves to cinema though, with their fast moving plots and economic (largely absent, if we’re being honest) characterisation, so now here comes a third one.
This time around symbologist Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) teams with Dr Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones, soon to be seen rebelling in Star Wars: Rogue One) to unravel some kind of world-threatening riddle tied to the works of Dante Alighieri – hence the title, Inferno. Omar Sy, Ben Foster, and Irrfan Khan are also along for the ride under the stewardship of director Ron Howard.
Inferno hits Australian screens on October 13, 2016.
