Samuel Goldwyn Films, partnering up with Purdie distribution, will release Spirit of the Game in US theatres on October 7, 2016.
Filmed in Victoria, Spirit of the Game tells the story of a group of young American Mormon missionaries in the 1950s who help the nascent Australian basketball tam prepare for the 1956 Olympic Games. It stars Kevin Sorbo, Aaron Jakubenko, Wade Briggs, Denise Roberts, Mark Mitchell, and Heath Ledger Scholarship winner Anna McGahan. Scholarship runner up Emilie Cocquerel also features. Its the second feature from Australian actor turned director JD Scott, who also helmed the faith-based The Playbook, and is produced by Kate Whitbread, Spencer McLaren, and Steve Jaggi.
An Australian release date has yet to be announced.
