Intro:
... immediate and punchy.

When it was released into theatres in 2019, Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite did not fail to make a big impression on international audiences.

Some moviegoers who saw Joon Ho’s Oscar-winning class thriller/comedy in cinemas might question what a Live in Concert version could add to the film.

Yet, seeing the South Korean tale of two families, accompanied by an Orchestra performing the original score, led by its composer Jung Jae-Il, is an entirely different experience.

A collaboration with Orchestra Victoria, played over two performances, the Live in Concert version of Parasite is dazzling – Joon Ho’s feature is enormously enriched and enhanced by Orchestra Victoria’s musicians.

Under the steady direction of Jung, watching Parasite, as the film shifts gears, it somehow seems even more immediate and punchy.

The impressive performance by Orchestra Victoria adds to the air of tension and the striking images captured by cinematographer Hong Kyung-pyo, and it also highlights just how strange and effective Jung’s score is. At different times, Jung’s music is menacing and other times minimal.

Seeing Parasite live with Jung’s music, conducted by the man himself, is highly engrossing, enjoyable and cinematic in its own unique way.
