A Unique and Original Australian Pilot makes its way to the Big Screen in New York City
The third annual Dances With Films – NYC, plays host to more than a dozen world premieres at the bicoastal festival. The pilot category features the exciting dark-comedy/thriller ‘Hive’, the only Australian pilot selected in this year’s festival.
‘Hive’ is the story of five strangers trapped inside a tacky, low-budget sitcom. Watched by an unseen audience ever hungry for entertainment, the reluctant ‘stars’ must learn to play along with their eerie ‘supporting’ castmates or risk being killed off for cheap laughs. Can they work together to uncover the mysteries of their captivity to escape? Or will they be consumed by the bright lights of ‘stardom’ and their darkest impulses laid bare?
“The ‘show-within-a-show’ sitcom evokes well-known ‘flashpoints’ in the evolution of online platforms, with the characters’ responses exploring the intense needs and desires social media evokes in users,” says director Dan Jones. “We believe this idea is fresh, full of potential, and best of all, original. A World Premiere with Dances With Films represents and exciting first step in our festival journey.”
The New York City event, which runs from December 5-8, is a companion to Dances With Films – LA, which celebrated its 27 year in June. Tickets are available now!
