The Casting Guild of Australia celebrated its 10th annual CGA Awards on Friday evening at a ceremony at Establishment Hotel, Sydney hosted by Connor and Christiaan Van Vurren with special guest producer Sally Riley.
Taking out the award for ‘Best Casting in a Feature Film’ was Nathan Lloyd for his work on Windcatcher.
For the second year in a row, Kirsty McGregor and Stevie Ray won ‘Best Casting in a TV Comedy’ for their work on Colin From Accounts, this year for season 2. Amanda Mitchell took home the award for ‘Best Casting in a TV Drama’ for Erotic Stories (Episodes 2-7).
For ‘Best Casting in a Telemovie/Miniseries, Nikki Barrett took out the top prize for her work on Netflix’s acclaimed Boy Swallows Universe while Rhys Velasquez won ‘Best Casting in a Short Film’ for Black Trans Miracle.
The casting team behind AAMI ‘When Our Game Has Its Moments,’ Amy Mete, Nick Hamon and Sarah Price, took home the award for ‘Best Casting in a TVC – Community. Megan D’Arcy won ‘Best Casting in a TVC – Actor’ for AAMI ‘Athletes In The Making’.
For ‘Best Casting in a Theatre Production, Janine Snape won for her work on Cost of Living.
Lucky Price took out the award for ‘Achievement in Casting’ for Cerebral Palsy Alliance.
The CGA also officially crowned Australia’s top emerging talent of 2024, highlighting ten extraordinary actors with the potential to break out on the world stage.
This year’s CGA Rising Stars include Alyla Browne (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart), Courtney Monsma (Wicked the Musical Australia, Paper Dolls), Danny Ball (Loaded, Totally Completely Fine), Felix Cameron (Boy Swallows Universe, Penguin Bloom), Grace Chow (Mystery Road: Origin, The Twelve), Janet Anderson (Last King of the Cross, Collapsible), Lee Tiger Halley (Boy Swallows Universe, Crazy Fun Park), Megan Wilding (Gold Diggers, We Are Still Here), Michael Logo (Colin From Accounts, In Limbo), and Michael Theo (Love on the Spectrum, Austin).
The CGA Awards is the only casting awards ceremony in the southern hemisphere that celebrates and recognises casting across all mediums including film, television, advertising, theatre and online content. The annual Awards Ceremony seeks to acknowledge and support the critical role casting directors play in bringing together great casting opportunities both on a national and international stage.
