Shot in Sydney, Street Fighter leapt straight to the top of the box office this weekend, trouncing other new releases Sense and Sensibility and Whalefall. Meanwhile, on limited release, Naza hardly did the sort of business that you may have expected from all of the noise, whilst La Bola Negra may be an Oscars frontrunner, but can anyone hear this far out from the nominations announcement?

AUSTRALIAN FILMS AT THE BOX OFFICE

The per screen average of Naza is the second highest on the list – it’s doing well for a doco that’s being sold as ‘important’ and a hard watch. It’s not on many screens either. I’d be particularly interested in your perspective/review on the film Mr Kornits.
La Bola Negra was a truly fine film, confronting in its depiction of both the beauty of life and the barbarity + brutality of war. It’s so complex I’m actually keen to rewatch it.
I do have a question: these reissues of the great 90s Australian Wave cinema (Muriel’s, Castle, Falafel, etc) are they summer screenings/outdoor/event screenings or are they playing in cinemas?
