Greystanes tells the story of a Maltese-Australian family in Greystanes, New South Wales in 1995, who encounter a nightmare’s gallery of creatures from Maltese folklore – all of them tied to a dark family secret.
The series’ cast includes award-winning Maltese actress Frances Duca (Ali’s Wedding), alongside Chloe Delle Vedove (Disney Theatrical Productions Mary Poppins and Frozen) and newcomers Tigran Tovmasian and James Pantelis. Filmed in and around the Western Sydney suburb of Greystanes – a pillar in Sydney’s Maltese community – Greystanes will drop on TikTok in early 2024, before a longform version hits global festivals later that year. A recipient of Screen Australia, NZ On Air and TikTok’s “Every Voice” initiative, Greystanes has also been made possible with development funding from Screen NSW and further support from Mario’s Pastizzi and the Maltese Cultural Association of NSW.
Greystanes is directed by AACTA-nominated filmmaker Ryan Cauchi and co-written with Matt Ferro (The Matrix, Happy Feet) with the duo producing alongside co-producers Julian Ramundi and Helena Dodd and line-producer Tsu Shan Chambers, hot off the heels from Western Sydney feature film Suka. Creature and practical effects were provided by eight-time Archibald finalist and filmmaker Nick Stathopoulos and Lewis P. Morley, one of the masterminds behind the infamous animatronic giant boar in 1984 cult classic Razorback. The score is currently being composed by APRA Screen Music Award Winner Me Lee Hay.
Greystanes will be released exclusively on TikTok in early 2024, at @GreystanesSeries. A short film version will enter into festivals globally the same year. Visit the Greystanes social pages on Facebook (@Greystanes-Series) and Instagram (@greystaneseries).
