Well, at least GOAT lived up to its title this weekend!

Because this weekend was anything but the greatest of all time.

Allegedly, it’s Oscar season, meaning that all the nominated films should be raking it in, however that is very far from the case… [Mr Nobody Against Putin was barely released.] What’s worse, star-driven big-time marketed films such as The Bride! and The Moment are playing more than 4 times/day in some cinemas, with a sub $500 screen average – which basically means that on average, there were around 30 people that saw the films in cinemas over 4 premium days.

Maybe it’s time to rethink some programming decisions? Perhaps it’s time to support Australian films?

Watch out for One Battle After Another and Sinners to play to half-empty cinemas over the coming days, better than one of the best films of this year, The Plague, starring Australia’s own Joel Edgerton, which made a little over $5k on 13 screens in its first weekend of release. Do the math… that’s a tinier screen average than The Bride! and The Moment.

On the bright side, the school holidays are just around the corner.
