While Tinseltown used to be about Aussies who were untouchable, like Hugh and Nicole Kidman, these days, the Aussie stars seem a little more down to earth and approachable. But are they still making bank?
Ah, to be a Hollywood star with an annual six (or seven, or even eight!) figure salary. It’s really only something you can dream of, because making it big like these down under wonders, is certainly not something that comes easy. You’ve probably got better luck when playing at an Australian no deposit bonus casino and hitting the jackpot than becoming a celebrity…At least in this lifetime!
Margot Robbie
The woman who’s hot on everyone’s lips right now is Margot Robbie [seen above in upcoming Barbie]. While her Hollywood breakout role was in the Wolf of Wall Street in 2013 alongside Hollywood royalty, Leonardo DiCaprio, she was on her grind for many year before that. Aussies will remember her distinctly from her time on Neighbours as Donna Freedman. She even played a small role in the decades-long running Aussie soap’s last final flings this year. Margot clocks in at $62 million net worth in 2021 – enough to buy a mega-mansion in Sydney. She’s also #72 on the Australian Financial Review’s Young Rich List.
Chris Hemsworth
Chris, Luke, Liam… the blood runs thick and hot with these in-demand Aussie brothers. Hailing from the East coast of Australia, all three of these blond babes have been making waves in the industry for a long time. Hailing from the hippy-slash-influencer heaven that is Bryon Bay, these brothers are a trifecta if ever we saw one. Chris [pictured in Spiderhead], at the moment at least, is the most bankable of the three, with an estimated worth of around $105 million. This is thanks to movies like the goliath Thor, home fitness app Centr, and being the quintessential sexy Australian in everything that he does. And no, he’s not the one that dated Miley – that’s Liam. Equally as exciting.
Nicole Kidman
A leading Hollywood lady for around 40 years, Nicole Kidman [pictured in Nine Perfect Strangers] is nothing short of a powerhouse. Starting out her career with BMX Bandits in 1983, Nicole was often referred to in the same breath as Scientology and Tom Cruise – her husband for many years after meeting on the set of Days of Thunder in 1990. Career highlights for Nicole include the Academy Award for Best Actress in 2002 for her role as Virginia Woolf in The Hours, plus her star turns in Batman Forever (a rare escapist superhero movie), To Die For (a dark comedy alongside Joaquin Phoenix) and Eyes Wide Shut (with Tom!). Her current net worth stands at around the $250 million mark and she is now happily remarried to country music star Keith Urban.
Cate Blanchett
Another blonde bombshell and highly sought-after actress around the same era is Cate Blanchett [pictured in Nightmare Alley]. Flowing seamlessly across drama and comedy, movies and television, Cate is a natural of many talents. You may not even realise she was in something as she is a true chameleon – did you catch Cate as the newsreader in Don’t Look Up? Cate, too, has a Best Actress Academy Award under her belt for playing Katherine Hepburn in The Aviator (these Leo references write themselves). More recently, Cate has been tearing up Broadway and executive producing films.
Miranda Kerr
While Miranda Kerr may not be a household name outside of Australia, she does deserve her place on this list. As the baby-faced supermodel who came out of Dolly magazine’s model competition – when she was 14, no less – Miranda went on to become one of the world’s highest paid models and land her a coveted spot as a main Victoria’s Secret Angel. After a high-profile relationship and children with Orlando Bloom, Kerr has now settled down with Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegal. Her KORA Organics skincare line continues to impress, and her net worth is estimated at $45 million.
Hugh Jackman
Ok, let’s just circle back to Hugh. The man can do no wrong, after all. After a huge stage and musical career, Hugh managed to crack Hollywood, too, with his roles in the X-Man saga, The Prestige, Happy Feet, Australia, and more. While Hollywood was good to Hugh, in more recent years he has returned to the stage where he really feels at home. Want to know how much he’s packing? Around $180 million, so they say.
Simon Baker
Is he Aussie orrrrr? Simon Baker has long been a feature in Hollywood, from the silver screen to full features. But he’s not exactly the most forthcoming with his heritage – you’ll be strained to notice an accent! The blonde dramatist has been gracing our screens for many decades, as the lead in shows like The Guardian and The Mentalist [pictured], flashing his wry smile. More recently Simon delved into his past to lay it all bare – so give it a view if you are interested.
