Not a great weekend at the box office, especially for Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Reckoning. We’ve recently seen a bit of chatter on the social networks about the mistake to release Digger widely, and we suppose that the same could be said for Sorkin’s sequel to The Social Network. Platform release, they say, just a few cinemas in major centres and then expand, like the good ol’ days. But we beg to differ. Those days are behind us. Too many new movies start every week, and unless you open big everywhere, your film is never going to expand in a meaningful way. Just take the money and run! That said, let’s see what happens with John Wilson’s The History of Concrete as it delivers on the promise of city centre screen average of $11k with a season in Castle Towers.
