A TV spin-off of kiwi vampire comedy What We Do in the Shadows has been greenlit and will air in New Zealand next year, according to New Zealand On Air.
Conceived by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, Paranormal Event Response Unit is a six episode Cops-style mockumentary that follows two police officers, Karen and Mike, who have to contend with supernatural threats in modern day Wellington. So, shades of Death Valley there.
This is, of course, in addition to We’re Wolves, the planned film dealing with the lycanthropes who featured in Shadows that will more than likely see Rhys Darby return as the leader of a werewolf self-help group. So, essentially we have an WWDITS expanded universe. Let’s all be grateful we live in a world where that can happen.
Taika Waititi is currently finishing up shooting Thor: Ragnarok in Queensland.
