Tropfest jury head Susan Sarandon will be joined by Lion director Garth Davis, documentarian Jennifer Peedom (Mountain), and actor Rob Collins (Cleverman), while the ABC’s Zan Rowe (Double J Mornings) and comedian Susie Youssef (The Chaser’s Media Circus) are taking on hosting duties, it was announced today.
Kicking off at Paramatta Park on Saturday, February 17, this year’s Tropfest will also feature a special performance from actor/singer/composer/writer/etc Tim Minchin.
Prior to the main event is Tropfest Jr., hosted by Andrew Ryan (Tomorrow, When the War Began) and Kristy Best (Neighbours), with a jury comprised of Lincoln Younes (Home and Away), Madeleine Clunies-Ross (A Place to Call Home), Sean Keenan (Puberty Blues), Julian Maroun (Romper Stomper), Tiarnie Coupland (Neighbours), Penny McNamee (Home and Away) and 2017 winner Nick Ward, who are tasked with picking this year’ best film from creators under 15.
A full day’s entertainment is on the cards, with the Tropfest Food Village open from 12pm, live entertainment from 4pm with fifteen-piece Cumbia orchestra Cumbiamuffin, and rising R&B star Thandi Phoenix, plus buskers from Western Sydney University scattered throughout the Park.
