The second trailer for Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot has arrived and, predictably, it’s better than the first. Equally as predictably, it’s drawn ire from the hordes of weirdly insecure and militant people who have decided that this franchise, above all others, is the hill upon which they choose to die. Alea jacta est. You don’t see nerd culture commentators making smug videos about how they refuse to review Transformers: The Last Knight or The Magnificent Seven.
But the trailer looks fine! Not brilliant, but fine. The jokes land, the aesthetic of the clearly-unfinished CGI ghosts is cool, and the sense of scale is palpable. The biggest niggle is that too much maps directly onto the original film – do we really need another library ghost, another confrontation with the mayor, another Slimer? But on the upside, Chris Hemsworth gets to use his actual accent, which must be nice for him.
Sadly, what could be a cool little (or terrible little – let’s be fair) movie is also an ideological battleground, so even trying to judge its merits alone is a fraught prospect. Still, that’s what we’ll be doing when Ghostbusters hits Australian cinemas on July 14.
HI THIS MOVIE WILL BE FINE. GO HOME UNFUCKABLE HATE-NERDS, NOBODY WANTS TO READ YOUR WHINGING.
YEAH, CULTURAL MARXISM AND SJWS’ ARE COMING TO GENOCIDE THE WHITES. CRY MORE.
