The Ocean’s Trilogy
Ocean’s 11, 12 and 13 were all wildly popular movies when they came out in the early 2000s. Starring heavy-weight actors such as George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts and Matt Damon surely put a dent in their popularity but honestly, the storyline is just so good that the movie could have probably carried itself, even without some of the Hollywood legends. Set largely in Las Vegas, this first movie follows the lead character, Danny Ocean (played by George Clooney) as he tries to complete the ultimate heist against a Las Vegas casino owner, Terry Benedict (played by Andy Garcia) with the help of his friends, turned heist team.
It is an exciting movie to watch, especially if you do not know a lot about how casinos work, as it gives you a great understanding of the security, size of teams and operational processes that casinos run under. You see, the whole point of the film is to take advantage of the loopholes in the casino system and to do that, you need to know every single thing you can about casinos. This is exactly what this movie tries to teach the spectator so that they can go on a whirlwind of a casino adventure.
Casino Royale
You cannot outline some of the best casino movies without considering a classic James Bond movie such as Casino Royale. Played by Daniel Craig, this movie is filled with many ups and downs, just as a James Bond movie should be. There are of course many car chases in Aston Martins and a large amount of fight scenes. But the most interesting part is that the whole mission of James Bond centers around a casino, namely the Casino Royale. Without giving any spoilers away, this is said to be one of the best James Bond movies to do. It’s hard to go up against Pierce Bronson and Sean Connery but Daniel Craig did a great job of it.

Another excellent movie that has a lot to do with mathematics and counting cards. The movie is not initially about casinos, so its inclusion may surprise you, but it follows a student at University who is extremely good at mathematics. This student is invited to a game of cards by his professor and says yes, assuming complete innocence. However, the professor has an ulterior motive and is actually trying to recruit his smartest students to cheat the casino system and count cards. It’s an epic adventure that matches brains with bravery and questions morality. The movie keeps you on the edge of your seat as it is not straightforward and there is a lot of important story-telling to be done. It is not a simple action movie, nor is it a comedy or a thrilling, it’s a mixture of genres that work together to create a masterpiece.
