Jacob Melamed’s art imitates life short film was made months before 14 December last year. “In a time when antisemitism in Australia has escalated from words to violence, and, now to death, stories like Mezuzah Man are more important than ever to be seen,” says the filmmaker. “It shines a light on what many in our Jewish community have long been fearing has been coming, whilst exploring the weight of historical and religious trauma we carry, and the difficulty of navigating that weight in a world that seemingly feels more indifferent to that trauma by the day.”
Made as part of the Jewish Australian Screen Fund, the film screened at the Jewish Film Festival, and was recently made available on 9Now. Check it out.
