“The idea for SHARKO began over a conversation with dad,” says filmmaker Luke Graham, who is directing. “There was so much of his life that I wanted to know. I also wanted to celebrate his career and the game of rugby league.”
In development for the past 5 years, SHARKO promises to be much more than a hagiography about rugby league and Mark Graham, a legendary, tough-as-nails player who represented New Zealand, and played for the North Sydney Bears in Australia.
“SHARKO looks at the human side behind one of the world’s most brutal sports during its golden era, the 1980s. Most importantly it will be about my idol, my Superman,” said Luke Graham, who was inspired to make the film when he became a father himself.
SHARKO will mark Luke Graham’s debut as a director, following his recent success as producer of another rugby league themed film, Broke.
A sales trailer has been launched to coincide with the crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo, where backers can receive various perks as part of their donations, with Creative Partnerships Australia matching the first $5,000 received by the campaign through their Matchlab initiative.
