Unbreakable Stride has been announced as a finalist in the internationally recognised 2025 Focus on Ability Short Film Festival, presented by NOVA Employment. Selected from hundreds of entries across 26 countries, our film now has the chance to compete for a share of the festival’s prize pool, which exceeds $100,000 AUD.
The Focus on Ability (FOA) festival celebrates the talents and stories of people with disabilities, and this year marks its 17th anniversary of showcasing films that inspire change and shift perspectives. This year, there are an impressive 283 finalists from 26 countries.
Our short Documentary aims to illuminate the often-overlooked experiences of neurodivergent individuals by following the extraordinary journey of Bexta, a model who has defied societal expectations and industry norms. Through her story, we hope to challenge stereotypes, ignite conversations about inclusion and mental health, and celebrate the power of authenticity.
Director Yogi Devgan intends not only to inspire but also to educate audiences by highlighting the struggles and triumphs faced by neurodivergent individuals in a world that isn’t always designed to understand or accommodate differences. By centring Bexta’s voice and vision, our film invites viewers to appreciate the beauty of neurodiversity and the strength it takes to thrive in the face of adversity.
At its core, this documentary is a celebration of resilience, identity, body shame and the courage required to be unapologetically yourself. “We’re so proud to be part of a movement that celebrates ability and inclusion,” said producer Violeta Abarzua.
Yogi Devgan is a filmmaker from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) background. His vision is to reflect and promote diversity and inclusion through storytelling, while also raising awareness of cultural filmmakers in Australia. This project holds special significance, as it marks Violeta’s debut as a producer of a short documentary. Violeta is a refugee immigrant from South America.
