Spark Film Initiative has been producing consistently high-quality short films since its inception in 2017. Films from previous rounds have gone on to screen at festivals including FlickerFest and the Melbourne International Film Festival. In 2022 Spark is going back to its roots and returning to fiction.

Spark is a short film seed fund that begins with a competitive script submission process. Judges from the local film and screen industry select four winning teams of local filmmakers. Each team receives a $10,000 share from the $40,000 fund to produce a short film. The completed films premiere as part of the Spark Gala Screening during DIFF in September 2022.

Darwin International Film Festival is proudly supported by the Northern Territory Government, Screen Territory, The NT Major Events Company and Screen Australia.

James Parker, Darwin International Film Festival Manager: “Spark is simply amazing. We’re so proud to be able to fund work from local filmmakers. $40,000 is a significant investment for the festival, but we are happy to contribute to this amazing project. The World Premiere screening is a highlight of the film festival, it receives so much support from the local community each year. I can’t wait to see this round of films being developed.”
