“Daisy,” an evocative Australian period drama short film penned by Cassidy Krygger, who also portrays the titular character, has garnered significant international acclaim, securing an impressive 13 prestigious awards at various film festivals worldwide since March, including recognition at the Cannes World Film Festival.

Following two sold-out screenings at Geelong’s Pivotonian Cinema earlier this month, “Daisy” has also announced plans to expand into a feature film and is now available for rental or purchase on Vimeo on Demand.

Inspired by the true story of Cassidy Krygger’s great-grandmother, “Daisy” transports viewers to 1930, where a young Catholic woman named Daisy grapples with the dilemma of an unplanned pregnancy by her Protestant lover, Charlie (Krygger’s Great Grandfather). Amid societal pressures and familial expectations, Daisy embarks on a poignant journey of love, sacrifice, and self-discovery.

“I’ve woven many personal nods to my great-grandmother throughout the film to honour her legacy,” Cassidy explains. “The Daisy Productions logo is her actual signature from her 1930 marriage certificate, and I wear her cherished necklace, passed down through generations, in the film. It’s the only thing of hers that still exists.”

Cassidy, who lives with Multiple Sclerosis, has garnered critical acclaim for her portrayal of her great-grandmother, an experience she describes as profoundly healing and humbling.

“Building on the success of the short film and its incredibly positive reception, we are thrilled to announce plans to produce the feature film right here in Geelong, Victoria, just as we did with the short,” Cassidy reveals. “All proceeds from streaming our short will directly fund the early development of the feature.”

“Daisy” has received widespread acclaim after being selected at 21 film festivals around the world, earning the following accolades:

So, to now come full circle and win so many best actress awards is just mind blowing and so wonderful! It’s a testament to never giving up.”
