Bangalow Film Festival (BFF) is returning in 2025 with a star studded program of special guests, exclusive films, premieres, events and masterclasses. With an incredible selection of 24 critically acclaimed international and Australian films to experience along with several short films, find your seats and settle in for the 2025 program reveal….
We’re thrilled to reveal the special guests joining us for this edition of the festival include extraordinary directors Rolf de Heer, Warwick Thornton, Mark Leonard Winter, Molly Reynolds, Mara Jean Quinn, Eliza Cox and Nays Baghai along with beloved actors Gary Sweet, Aaron Pedersen and Damon Gameau.
Featuring a diverse range of entertaining and thought-provoking films, there’s something for everyone to enjoy from dramas and comedies to documentaries and animations. With special guests in attendance and masterclasses on offer, Bangalow Film Festival is ready to roll out the red carpet!
Bringing a touch of Italy to Bangalow, the Australian premiere of Milano – the Inside Story of Italian Fashion will be opening the festival with a night of glitz and glamour. Arrive in style and raise a glass of prosecco before the screening with friends and enjoy a a dazzling start to the festival.
Set against the stunning backdrop of Italy’s fashion capital, Milano – the Inside Story of Italian Fashion chronicles the emergence of Italian fashion and its rise as a global phenomenon. A captivating documentary tribute helmed by award winning filmmaker John Maggio, the film features a renowned cast of icons including Helen Mirren, Sharon Stone, Samuel L. Jackson, Frances McDormand, Tom Ford, Gianni Versace, Giorgio Armani and Dolce & Gabbana.
Join us for a special event screening of The Tracker, in company of the director Rolf de Heer, and actors Gary Sweet and Damon Gameau.
(Re)discover two recent cinematic gems through the eyes and words of their makers by attending our Filmmakers Encounters special screenings featuring Warwick Thornton and Mark Winter Leonard who will be discussing the making of The New Boy and The Rooster.
Immerse yourself in the feature film Andamooka, an intriguing story of a troubled city woman who heads to the outback on a quest to spend her 30th birthday in the tiny opal mining town Andamooka. Following the screening will be an insightful Q&A with the Director Mara Jean Quinn and Producer Aaron Pedersen.
The mesmerising I Am the River, The River is Me brings the stunning scenery of the Whanganui River in Aotearoa/New Zealand to the BFF screen as it delves into the wonder of the first river in the world to be recognised as a legal person.
Coming-of-age documentary Queens of Concrete chronicles the journey of three teenage girls pursuing Olympic skateboarding history, captured over a seven year period. Discover more about the journey in a Q&A with the director Eliza Cox following the screening.
Another breathtaking documentary, Maya and the Wave will have audiences cheering as surfer Maya Gabeira makes history as the first woman to break in the male-dominated world of big wave surfing.
Get close to the Dalai Lama as he shares his advice to navigating life in the intimate and heartfelt documentary Wisdom of Happiness. Head deep underwater with the international premiere of the sensational North Sea – Nature Untamed and a special screening of Diving Into The Darkness followed by a Q&A with the director Nays Baghai.
Bring the whole family along to Flow, one of the most critically acclaimed animation films. A wholesome adventure of triumph and resilience, the stunning multiple award-winning animation film is a gem for all ages. Zero dialogue, 100% magic.
The enlightening documentary Music For Mushrooms chronicles musician East Forest and their journey to bring healing music and medication into the public sphere. Featuring interviews and conversations with artists, academics, and cultural experts in the fields of psychedelics, science, music and philosophy, this eye- opening and cinematic experience offers a fresh perspective.
Need more mushrooms? Join us for Mycelium Dreams, an exclusive program of fungi-focused short films created in collaboration with Fungi Film Fest.
Experience some of the special events on offer. Join us for an intimate conversation over a memorable luncheon with iconic filmmaker Rolf de Heer (The Tracker, Ten Canoes, Charlie’s Country).
Following the uplifting screening of Living Bach will be a remarkable performance by Amatori Choir, ready to serenade and encourage the audience to sing-along.
Take part in two days of panels and gain industry knowledge and insight into the world of filmmaking and screenwriting presented in collaboration with Byron Writers Festival and Screenworks. Dive into a panel dedicated to underwater photography featuring leading NSW underwater photographers and filmmakers.
