Screenxcope Pty Ltd, an Australian production & distribution entity specially known for its Asian slates, has announced the acquisition of Australian and New Zealand rights to Deepak Rauniyar’s critically acclaimed feature film, Pooja, Sir. This gripping socio-political thriller, told in Nepalese language, has been making significant waves on the international festival circuit, promising a compelling watch for Australian audiences and a groundbreaking addition to the region’s cinematic landscape. Pooja, Sir marks a significant milestone as potentially the first Nepalese content to be featured on so many prestigious festivals & platforms.
Having premiered at the prestigious Venice Film Festival 2024 with a Queer Lion Award nomination, Pooja, Sir has since enjoyed an extraordinary festival run, securing official selections at over a dozen renowned international events including POFF Tallinn Black Nights, Busan International Film Festival, and the Sydney Film Festival. Australian audiences recently had a taste of the film at the Sydney Film Festival last month, with an upcoming official selection screening at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in August 2025. The film has already garnered awards, including the “Free to Be Me” Award at Roze Filmdagen Amsterdam and an award at the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal, further solidifying its critical acclaim.
