There are some actual laughs to be had in the latest Baywatch trailer ,which is a first for upcoming big screen reboot’s marketing campaign. That necrotising fat bit was pretty good, and the notion of our man Mr. Johnson (not me) carrying a couple of fridges across the beach is worth a chuckle or two.
It could be that we’re being a bit harsh on the whole thing. After all, the formula is simple but sound: get a bunch of extraordinarily good looking people together in as little as possible (while still retaining an audience-friendly rating) and let the ones with proven comedic chops do the heavy lifting. The Man Formerly Known as The Rock is, of course, a preternaturally charismatic performer, and Efron has proven he’s got the goods (Bad Neighbours) when he’s not performing in utter crap (We Are Your Friends).
So, sight picture adjusted, this could be worth a look. Co-starring Priyanka Chopra, Alexandra Daddario, Jon Bass, Kelly Rohrbach, and Ilfenesh Hadera, and directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses), Baywatch slo-mos into Australian cinemas on June 1.
