New Aussie Horror-Comedy Series Girt By Fear To Debut This Halloween

October 26, 2016
The promising new web series Girt By Fear draws on John Carpenter and ’70s Ozploitation flicks to create a horror anthology for a new generation.

A group of emerging Sydney filmmakers consisting of Joel Pergut (writer/producer), Madeleine Purdy (director/producer), Yiani Andrikidis (director/producer), David Ma (director/producer), and Josh Vines (producer/marketing co-ordinator) have created a six-part horror-comedy web series about the bizarre and macabre happenings in the suburbs of Sydney.

The series follows a group of twentysomethings on their way to a Halloween party that is sure to be filled with supernatural craziness. The series is deeply rooted in youth culture and genre filmmaking and describes itself as “High Maintenance meets Goosebumps with a healthy dose of Australiana. Think Round The Twist for adults.”

Each episode of the series plays on a different horror trope (Nightmare On Australia Street, Only Wankers Left Alive), and we were able to catch a sneak peek at one of the episodes and absolutely loved it. Entertaining and highly promising, the series hits the sweet spot of Aussie youth culture and inventive genre beats, and features a local cast of new and established actors including Tony Martin (Wildside, Candy), Travis Jeffrey (Pirates Of The Caribbean, Unbroken), Jerome Meyer (Joe Cinque’s Consolation), George Zhao (The Family Law) and Millie Samuels (Alex and Eve).

We’re looking forward to catching the rest of the series when it debuts this Halloween, and as the tagline says “Welcome to Australia’s loosest Halloween party: one night, one city, young and free. Girt By Fear.”

You can catch the web series from October 31 right here. For more information, check out the series’ Facebook page.
