Having packed ’em in on the festival circuit, Louis Theroux: My Scientology Movie is all set for a limited Australian wide theatrical engagement starting on September 8, just ahead of Theroux’s live stage tour.
My Scientology Movie is Theroux’s first feature documentary following years of acclaimed television work, and follows the British filmmaker’s attempts to understand the inner workings of the controversial Church of Scientology after he is refused entry to its LA Headquarters. Teaming up with former church 2IC Mark “Marty” Rathbun, Theroux uses actors and sets to restage events that former members describe as having happened inside the church, including clashes with the likes of Tom Cruise and David Miscavige.
