2016 marks the third year of the AFI/ACTAA #SocialShorts competition. The online short film contest, which runs for three weeks, aims to create exposure for emerging and talented young Australian filmmakers. Each week will showcase a different category of films: Comedy, Drama, and Open submissions. The winner of each category will receive an attractive package-deal award including a cash prize, tickets to The 6th Annual ACTAA Awards, and a mentorship with a #SocialShorts ambassador (not to mention the industry-wide recognition).
Among the #SocialShorts ambassadors this year is Matilda Brown, who will be joining Australia’s Blue-Tongue Films group in a mentoring capacity. Brown, an accomplished and multitalented figure in the film industry, is excited to bring her expertise to the #SocialShorts competition, which she believes is a “great platform for filmmakers to get their work seen, not only by the industry, but by the wider audience.”
Matilda Brown will be a fantastic addition to the programme, and a wonderful resource for entrants. Last year, she released her short-format online series, Let’s Talk About It, which she wrote, produced, directed, and starred in. The show’s critical success adds to her collection of achievements in the industry, including both national and international awards for both filmmaking and acting.
This year’s #SocialShorts competition is set to be bigger and better than ever, with a record 50-plus film entries, an all-star group of ambassadors, and an increasing presence on social media. Audiences have the opportunity to vote for their favourite films on the #SocialShorts website, share them through Facebook, and could even win a double pass to The 6th AACTA Awards and after party on December 7.
