She’s got claws! Comics fans know this already – the little girl our man Logan (Hugh Jackman) is trying to protect is Laura Kinney, aka X-23, a clone of him with the same powers – and, it looks like, the same adamantium skeleton, which must be a hell of a thing for a growing kid the handle. Surely they’ll explain that.

Look, the X-Men movies have been hit and miss for a long time, and Age of Apocalypse was a garbage fire of a film, but this looks pretty great. There’s pathos here, and a thematic density that the films have generally shied away from (although there have been times when they’ve gotten oh-so-close). Director James Mangold managed a 90% good movie with The Wolverine – could he have actually gotten over the finish line with this one?

Logan hits cinemas on March 2, 2017.

UPDATE:

Here’s the Red Band trailer, in which we get a bit more blood, and the pure joy of hearing Patrick Stewart swear.
