We’ve been hearing for a while that WB/DC’s almost-here Justice League movie is going to make a serious attempt at course-correcting away from the dour, adolescent tone established by Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel and Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. One way that’s manifesting is in the musical score by superhero flick veteran Danny Elfman, which is incorporating not only elements from Elfman’s theme for Tim Burton’s ’89 Batman, but also John William’s absolutely unbeatable theme for Richard Donner’s 1978 Superman (not to mention Hans Zimmer and Junkie XL’s ass-kicking theme for Wonder Woman).
Speaking to Reporte Indigo, Elfman said, “We are not going to listen to a new song for Batman… they are going to listen to the Batman song for Batman. No! You will hear the Batman theme. Batman has only one musical theme.” He goes on to say, “I used the theme that Hans composed for Wonder Woman, the one that he wrote originally and used a bit – maybe – from John Williams to Superman, just maybe, we’ll have to see it…” (the site is in Spanish, so chalk up all grammatical inconsistencies to Google Translate)
