Care About Us is a documentary shot across eleven countries which forefronts real life accounts of homeless people from around the world. The project originally started with director, Dan Balcaban, filming on his own, but thanks to the generosity of volunteers, the project was supported by a production team from around the world. “This project is something that I have wanted to do for a while,” Balcaban says. “The idea came to me when I was lying in a hospital bed a few years ago after a near-death motorbike accident. I realised then that although I had nearly lost my life, there were others that were worse off than me. Other factors also led to the creation of the film, such as my mother getting food stamps and second hand clothes when we were kids due to our financial situation at the time. I also ran away from home when I was younger. Although it was for a short time, I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone.”
The documentary will be premiering at The Sydney Powerhouse Museum on Saturday November 5. Along with the screening, there will be a Q&A session, and live discussions with sponsors and filmmakers, with a focus on education about homelessness and how to make a difference. A premiere ticket comes with a raft of benefits, including access to the museum, the Q&A session, and an after-party following the screening. Best of all, the proceeds from the screening tickets will go to charities which support homeless people. So not only do you get to attend the world premiere of Care About Us, you also get all-day access to The Powerhouse Museum, and you will be supporting local charities, all for the price of a regular movie ticket.
Tickets are available for pre-purchase here. For more information on the film, click here and here.
