You know, since everyone started carrying a hi-rez camera on them at all times, we sure do get a lot less blurry UFO and cryptozoological photos cropping up in the fringier regions of the culture. To make up for it, however, we get a lot more early looks at upcoming movies thanks to eagle-eyed members of the public who happen to be on location with a handy iPhone, like this one:

That’s Matthew McConnaughey as Randall Flagg, the Man in Black, arch-villain of not only Stephen King’s reality-spanning Dark Tower, but pretty much the entire Kingiverse. Here he is in Mick Garris’ TV adaptation of The Stand, played by Jamey Sheridan:

Mr._Randall_Flagg

…which shows that evil gets pettier as the world moves on.

Currently shooting in New York City under the direction of Nikolaj Arcel, The Dark Tower stars Idris Elba as Roland Deschain, the Last Gunslinger, who must traverse a magic-drenched post-apocalyptic world in pursuit of both the villainous Flagg and the titular tower at the centre of all reality. At least, that’s the story in King’s seven-volume series; by all reports they’ve seriously rejigged the plot to make it fit on the big screen. We’ll find out more as production details continue to emerge.
