Well, that’s okay, I guess, although The Blues Brothers managed to pull off practically the same scene with only two guys. That means Jake and Elwood could beat The Defenders.

However, the good folks over at EW have uncovered a deeper meaning to this snippet of security footage. You’ll notice that Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter) takes out the camera at precisely 08:18:20:17, which looks an awful lot like a date in the American format. So, that’s our release date.

But there’s more! See the numbers in the upper left hand corner? If you stick them in your browser, you’ll wind up here, the website for in-universe newspaper The New York Bulletin, where Deborah Ann Wolls’ Karen Page is now a newshound. In amongst all all the cute canon ephemera (we assume the slow death of trad journalism has dropped advertising prices to a point where Colleen Wing can afford to spruik her dojo) you’ll find an admonishment to “Watch Marvel’s The Defenders All Episodes Streaming Only on Netflix August 18”.

That Bulletin site is worth noodling around on, too. You dig deep enough, you wind up on Ward Meachum’s LinkedIn profile. That’s pretty funny.

So, The Defenders hits Netflix on August 18, 2017. It’ll almost certainly be better than Iron Fist.
