Well, this looks just great. Fede Alvarez called the shots on the pretty great Evil Dead remake, and he’s reunited with his producer on that one, the legendary Sam Raimi, for this tight, taut slice of, well, slice ‘n’n dice.

Trying to raise enough money to take her little sister away from her deadbeat trailer trash parents, Rocky (Jane Levy) resolves to stifle her conscience for long enough to burgle a reputedly rich blind man along with her boyfriend, Money (Daniel Zovatto) and their buddy, Alex (Dylan Minnette). Horror movies frequently taking place in a surprisingly moral universe, this turns out to be a terrible idea, because a) the blind man s a psycho killer he stalks his prey by sound, and b) he’s played by the freakin’ great Stephen Lang.* Slaughter ensues.

Horror fans should be champing at the bit for this one. The confined location and tight, direct conceit work gangbusters, and it’s just great to see Lang on screen again, as he has been ill-served by his brief post-Avatar popularity. Everything about this screams “awesome late night popcorn shocker”.

Don’t Breathe hits Australian screens on September 1, 2016.

*Who was himself killed by a psycho way back in Manhunter, as discerning Thomas Harris fans already know.
