The next screening in Revelation Film Festival’s Australian Revelations series is nothing if not timely – the week before we all head to the polls they’ll be showing the classic Aussie drama, Don’s Party.
Directed by Bruce Beresford and based on David Williams’ acclaimed play, Don’s Party takes place on the night of the 1969 federal election. Don (John Hargreaves) hosts a gathering of friends that soon descends into vicious sniping and recriminations when the booze flows and the predicted Labor victory doesn’t eventuate. Co-starring Graham Kennedy, Graeme Blundell, Pat Bishop and Jeannie Drynan, it’s a searing, pitiless indictment of Australian middle class mores – just the thing to see before our own incipient Federal election.
Screening with it will be the short film Viva La Vincent, which was just nominated for Best short Film Factual at this year’s WA Screen Awards.
It’s all happening at Backlot Perth on Tuesday, June 28. Book your tickets here.
