The Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival (which runs from November 23 to December 4) has launched its programme for 2016 programme, and there’s a whole host of crackers in the mix this year. The festival will kick off with the acclaimed Indian drama, Parched, an inspiring tale of female empowerment which has won eighteen international awards and toured through 24 film festivals. Also among the line-up are celebrated Iranian director, Asghar Farhadi’s new drama; The Salesman; a documentary about the world’s best restaurant, Ants On A Shrimp; the eight-hour Filipino epic, A Lullaby To The Sorrowful Mystery; the controversial doco, Sonita; the Kristen Stewart-starring Personal Shopper; Jim Jarmusch’s Paterson; Mira Nair’s Queen Katwe; a restored print of the local classic, Storm Boy; and the Australian premiere of the low budget Aussie serial-killer thriller, Hounds Of Love, which is already being touted as the next Wolf Creek.
“There’s so much to immerse yourself in,” says Brisbane Asia Pacific Film Festival head programmer, Kiki Fung. “I am thrilled to present our retrospective on Japanese Screen Legends as it’s a rare opportunity to see these iconic actresses’ works with masters on the big screen. For the first time, we have included a selection of films from Europe and The Americas, consisting of this year’s most acclaimed, forward-thinking, provocative and intimate works that will surely be conversation starters.”
