Even though it’s been touted as far more hardcore (and thereby less commercial?) than their debut Talk to Me, it’s really great to see South Australia’s own Danny Philippou and Michael Philippou’s Bring Her Back open so well, beating out other new releases Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme and, um, Peppa Pig. They’ve taken the opportunity to blow people’s minds with their sophomore effort, and so far, so good, as the film plays on wide release. It’ll be interesting to see whether the love holds into week 2, but as far as leveraging success goes … mission accomplished!
