Well, Joker: Folie à Deux‘s reign at the top didn’t last long, despite the film costing more than 3 times the original to make … whilst The Wild Robot continues to impress through strong word of mouth. It should be interesting to see how TWB fares next weekend, following the release of Smile 2, and now that the school holidays are over. Same goes for Runt, which passed the impressive $5m this weekend, go Aussie go. Speaking of which, Australian indie Under Streetlights performed well from just 1 day of release in Alice Springs and The Road to Patagonia just keeps going and going, kind of like the film’s subject. Other Week 1 releases didn’t fare so well, apart from Terrifier 3, reinforcing our appetite for horror in these tough times. Or, did people mix it up for that other horror show The Apprentice, which unfortunately disappointed, considering its hot button subject and universal acclaim? Another under-performer was Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story; but understandable considering Warner/Universal’s usual expertise at releasing blockbuster fare, but what happened to our love of nostalgia and DC?
