With SF3: SmartFone FlickFest around the corner, this is a great reminder of the standard of films being shot on smartphones.
Co-Directed by Laura Brogan Browne and Jonathan Lagudi, who also stars, Idiot-Proof is not only a stand-alone entertaining heist film shot in Sydney in the Guy Ritchie mould, but it has also won numerous awards and festival berths, including Best Actor for Lagudi, Best Screenplay (for Lagudi and co-star Bailey Spalding), and the FilmBreaker/Best New Filmmaker Award at SF3. It also screened at the Toronto Smartphone Film Festival, New York Mobile Film Festival, Dublin Smartphone Film Festival, Inner West Film Fest, and Sydney Lift-OM Film Festival. The film won the Director’s Award at Sydney Web Fest, and Lagudi was named Best Emerging Filmmaker at the Toronto Smartphone Film Festival.
“Idiot-Proof was an incredible journey,” says Jonathan Lagudi. “From shooting on an iPhone to having it recognised on the international stage, it has exceeded all our expectations. We’re thrilled to finally share it with a wider audience online.”
The short film will also act as a proof of concept for Lagudi, who has since collaborated with screenwriter Damian Overton on a feature length adaptation.
