Australian post-apocalyptic sci-fi thriller Blue World Order has taken home the Audience Award at the 2016 Canberra International Film Festival, beating out runners-up Apprentice, Ella, Kills on Wheels, and Hotel Coolgardie.

Starring Stephen Hunter, Jake Ryan, Billy Zane, Jack Thompson and Bruce Spence, the film is set in a ruined world where an ominous self-appointed government called The Order is using an immunisation program as cover for an insidious plan to use a biotech virus to control the population. One man, however, is immune. Directed by Ché Baker and Dallas Bland, the actioner’s CIFF screening sold out well ahead of the date, and the film is set for international release in 2017.
