Well that clears up at least one question – Ryan Gosling is playing a young Blade Runner, who at some point tracks down crusty ol’ Harrison Ford’s Rick Deckard, who seems to be hiding out in some terrible apocalyptic desert (the result of the climate change that apparently informs much of the new film’s aesthetic?).
The Blade Runner 2049 teaser is certainly going out of its way to assuage fans of the original, who may still be cagey about the prospect of a belated sequel. With its haunting score, placid camera moves and monolithic set design, this certainly feels like Blade Runner, if nothing else, so we’ll take that as a good sign.
