British director Andrea Arnold’s first film since her gritty take on Wuthering Heights back in 2011 sees an aimless young woman (newcomer Sasha Lane) fall in with a rag-tag group of transient magazine salespeople led by Shia LaBeouf. A weirdly narcotic road movie that balances the possibilities of youth with the rather grim financial and social realities of being young right now, American Honey was awarded the Prix du jury at Cannes this year, which bodes well.
American Honey hits Australian cinemas on November 3, 2017.
