Sydney Film Festival award-winning documentary Floodland (2025) is a story about the strength found in recovery, the ability for communities to pull together in the face of disaster, and the urgent conversations being prompted by the reality of our changing climate. It moves beyond the news cycle to highlight the First Nations healing practices and community-led solutions that are so vital for Australia’s future. The events of the Lismore floods are an opportunity for our regional community to learn about disaster resilience in the face of droughts and bushfires; an invitation to pull together and bounce back in the face of hardship.
PANEL DISCUSSION:
Following the screening, the audience will be invited to stay for a live panel discussion that will ask the question, what does real community-led climate disaster adaptation look like? Speaking will be: Kelly Andrews (Healthy Cities CEO), Sonia Graham (UOW Researcher), Clare Robinson (Wollongong Council Emergency Management), and Peter Hewitt (Jerrinja/Yuin man and UOW Researcher).
Floodland was produced by MOFA, distributed in Australia by Bonsai Films, and proud to be part of Documentary Australia’s Climate Story Lab.
