Bonegilla-The migrant’s journey is a documentary that tells the complete story of the post war migration experience of European refugees and displaced persons immigrating to Australia after World War 2.
Using the first hand accounts of “New Australian’s”, this film leads you through the war years and their reason for wanting to leave their home countries. Travel on ships across the other side of the world. Arrival in a country they knew nothing about. Their housing in very spartan migrant camps and then their eventual acceptance of Australia as their new home. A safe place for their families to grow up in and prosper.

This documentary doesn’t shy away from any of the hardships and Australian societal backlash and allows the former migrants to share anything they want to express about their experiences.

You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. But most of all you’ll be inspired by these gutsy pioneers who made a new life for themselves, in a country they knew nothing about.

Friday 25th July, 7.30pm at Cinema Nova, 380 Lygon Street Carlton.
