An eclectic mix of comedy and drama, thematically reminiscent of Damon Lindelof’s The Leftovers and Jessica Goldberg’s The Path, DEAD CENTRE is an unpredictable dark comedy that follows no-nonsense chef Mel (newcomer Rachel Burke) as she reaches the end of her journey to find her missing brother Paul, a would-be recording artist taken in by a seemingly performance-art dance cult whose idol-of-choice happens to be a mid-century modern pink neon flamingo.
Combined with a talking trout (which delivers one of the series’ best eye-roll puns), lovably eccentric characters and genuine moments of heartfelt family drama, writer director Benno Thiel delivers the perfect three-part distraction for our lockdown lethargy.
“As a director I am excited to create DEAD CENTRE, to explore the themes of family through characters, and craft an aesthetic entirely unique to this world. It’s neon punk in outback Australia – and I can’t wait to share it with audiences.” Benno Thiel
