Period horror is definitely a thing now, if by period you mean the late 20th century. The Conjuring series has staked out the ’70s for its supernatural stalking ground, and now Ouija: Origin of Evil is jumping back a decade to give us a ’60s-set chiller about an evil board game.

Not much is known about the plot as yet, but the prequel to 2014’s Ouija sees an all-new cast – Annalise Basso, Elizabeth Reaser, et al – contend with demonic forces in the shape of a handily-priced party game from the makers of Battleship. The first film drew terrible reviews but went on to gross over a hundred million against a five million dollar budget, which is an impressive ratio in anyone’s terms. Hence, we’re getting another turn on October 20 when origin of evil hits Australian cinemas.
