Over a decade since the epochal documentary/lecture, An Inconvenient truth, put the spectre of global warming right up in our grills, former US Vice President Al Gore is back with a follow-up, which seems to be half “Dear God why didn’t you listen?” and half desperate hope for some kind of future.
Current US Commander in Chief Donald Trump features heavily here, and its easy to see why: politicising environmental care and promising budget savings by reneging on climate targets and dismantling the EPA makes him a natural enemy of the Common or Garden Variety Gore. The trailer also promises a more global approach to the issues at hand though, with Gore haring around the planet talking to various people directly affected by Climate Change (and letting the cameras of co-directors Bonni Cohen and Jon Shenk get a good look at some of the damage wrought).
An Inconvenient Sequel is in Australian cinemas from August 24, 2017.
