With Dune, Wes Anderson’s The French Dispatch and Find Me, the sequel to Call Me By Your Name in the works, The Hollywood Reporter has announced that the next role for hot young thing, Timothee Chalamet will be playing Bob Dylan in James Mangold’s adaptation of Elijah Wald’s salient book Dylan Goes Electric!, which recounted the folk music hero’s embrace of the electric guitar and rock music, most famously at the Newport Folk Festival. The screenplay is by Scorsese regular Jay Cocks and one of the producers is longtime Dylan manager Jeff Rosen.
The studio backing the project is Disney owned Fox Searchlight, who have secured the music for the film.
Music biopics are all the rage right now, following the success of Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman, with a couple of Australian projects in the works, including 2020 release I Am Woman (Helen Reddy) and Baz Luhrmann’s untitled Elvis Presley project.
Mangold is no stranger to musical biopics having helmed the Johnny Cash film, Walk The Line.
Now, the only question that remains – who will play Pete Seeger? We reckon that Sam Rockwell is just the man for the job.
