The little bits of ephemera and merch that spin out of film culture are endlessly fascinating. Box office is box office, but you can make a fair assessment of a film’s cult appeal by how many weird little items of merch get thrown up in its cinematic wake. Take The Witch, for example. Sure, David Eggers’ period horror never won an Oscar, but it’s been turned into an alcoholic beverage, which is surely the higher honour.*

Named for The Witch‘s evil goat, Black Phillip is a limited edition 4.5% cranberry and blood orange cider from the good folks at Blake’s Hard Cider in Michigan. We don’t even know if this is available in Australia, but a cursory Google search indicates that it might be a bit of a mission to track down. Still, it would look good on the shelf next to the Hunt for the Wilderpeople beer and the Dead Man bourbon & cola.

*A story I wrote for Gage Roads Brewing Co. was turned into a small batch beer. Truly, all other accolades are as dust.
