Before the DC crash of 2020, Zack Snyder leaves for the Transformers franchise (after Michael Bay is banned from filmmaking by The Director’s Guild Of America). What happens before that? Aquaman sinks, The Flash comes and goes, and tragically, the world isn’t ready for Wonder Woman. The second Justice League movie, credited to Snyder but really directed by Ben Affleck, is a critical success, but by the time of release, audiences have already lost faith in DC. Affleck’s Batman film is a critical and commercial box-office smash, but it’s not nearly enough to save them. To put it plainly, DC go broke. Warner Bros. puts DC up for sale, and who do you think comes to the table? None other than The Walt Disney Company (who owns Marvel). Disney then convince Damien Chazelle (Whiplash, La La Land) to write and direct a Marvel v DC film called, Marvel vs DC.
The film takes place after Man Of Steel and before Avengers: Age Of Ultron. Rather than using the real actors, Disney uses digital composites (a common practice in the future). The best part about that is, Christopher Reeve returns as Superman.
The Avengers are West Coast superheroes, while The Justice League are East Coast. Both are fighting for their piece of the market and their fans are passionate. A deathly feud soon begins between the fans. Focal points of the feud are Iron Man and Batman fans. Who is the richest? Who has the coolest gadgets? Who has the biggest Daddy issues? It gets out of control. All-out war erupts.
Fans form gangs and go to war on the streets. The East Coast gangs wear red bandanas and the West Coast wear blue. It grows in hostility until both the Avengers and Justice League have no choice but to fight it out for ultimate street cred and bragging rights, until both sides realise how similar their origins are.
Iron Man admits that he’s simply a product of the Batman mythology. It’s something that’s been eating at him for a long time. Thor, meanwhile, eventually recognises the similarities between him and Superman. The final straw is when Bruce Banner finds out that just like Superman, his mother’s name is Martha too. Then when Lex Luthor steals the Tesseract from Odin, the Avengers and Justice League unite for a common cause: America. I won’t give away the ending, but Lex Luthor is banished to The Death Star in a galaxy far, far away. The Death Star, which is now controlled by Princess Leia and the Resistance, features in the teaser after the final credits (with the Disney logo).
