After literally decades of struggle, it seemed that cinematic legend Terry Gilliam was finally going to get to call action on his long-gestating dream project, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Sadly, it seems there has been a delay (again) due to funding issues (again).

Interviewed the other day by Jonathan Ross, Gilliam said, “I was supposed to start to be shooting it starting next Monday. It’s been slightly delayed. I had this producer, a Portuguese chap, who claimed he’d get all the money together in time. And a few weeks ago, he proved that he didn’t have the money. So we are still marching forward. It is not dead. I will be dead before the film is.”

The current version of Quixote stars Michael Palin and Adam Driver. Gilliam famously tried to shoot the film back in 2000 with Jean Rochefort and Johnny Depp, but the production fell apart in a matter of days due to a surreal series of disasters, as shown in the 2002 documentary, Lost in la Mancha. Over the years Gilliam has tried again and again to mount the production to no avail. Hopefully this latest setback is more hiccup than hull breach.
