In years to come, tabloid rumours of infidelity, drunkenness and loitering will crop up here and there, most notably an incident in Zack Snyder’s hotel lobby involving tequila and the slur “… I told him NOT to put that Martha scene in!”, but because Ben Affleck is talented, he’ll get away with it all.
He has Justice League (2017) and Justice League: Part Two (2019) to endure. So how will Ben Affleck combat his next run of bad Zack Snyder movies? The first cab off the rank is The Accountant (2016). It’s a smart action movie, so sadly it won’t find an audience until it reaches illegal downloads or streaming services. But will be a solid slow burner for Affleck’s career.
Ben’s next movie in the director’s chair (released before Justice League) is Oscar winner, Live By Night (2017). It’s a big gangster epic from a film-maker who has clearly watched Goodfellas (1990) a thousand times. Martin Scorsese will be proud, while critics will be shocked he handed the baton to Ben Affleck of all people.
Right this very second, Ben Affleck is trying to convince WB and DC the importance of screenplays when it comes to film making. This will pay off when it comes time for his stand alone Batman film. After Justice League, Ben will release The Batman (2019). It’s set before Batman vs Superman and will feature several villains (including Matt Damon as Matt Damon), and be the highest ever grossing DC film. Fans will be all hopeful about DC again until Justice League: Part Two is released.
When the big DC Crash of 2020 happens, Ben Affleck will be the only one associated with the franchise to walk away without a scratch on him. All thanks to his extra curricular work.
