Mild spoilers for Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice follow.

We all know that Henry Cavill’s Superman is coming back in Justice League, yeah? Warners have made no secret about it, throwing him at events, panels and red carpets with gay abandon, and putting him in promo and concept art, so it’s not like it’s a big reveal. This is both understandable – you don’t want to be doing the DC Universe without Superman, after all – and utterly lame – the character’s death at the climax of BvS, already pretty silly, is rendered completely dramatically inert.

Still, it’s not the first time the big guy has bitten the dust – he died in the 1992 crossover comics event The Death of Superman, before returning to life in a sleek black and silver costume because it was the ’90s. Well, current Superman Henry Cavill posted this pic to Instagram today:

…which certainly looks like a close-up detail of the silver S on Supes’ black costume. Either that, or Cavill’s messing about with the filter settings. Still, it’s a strong indicator we’ll be getting the black costume when Justice League rolls around.

Information on whether Cavill will sport the mullet of ’90s Superman remains inconclusive.
